BBF Standings at the London Series Break

BBF division standings update

The 2024 British baseball season is well underway after play commenced in early April.

All nine leagues have contributed to plenty of thrilling and exciting baseball action so far.

This weekend, all domestic British baseball will be paused to welcome Major League Baseball’s return to the United Kingdom.

Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets will face off in the London Series at West Ham United’s London Stadium.

Fans can tune into both the Saturday and Sunday matches on the BBC Red Button and the TNT Sports channel.

This break in the British baseball schedule provides a perfect opportunity to sum up all of the action in each division so far.

BBF NBL

British baseball’s premier competition has gotten off to a fantastic start. Plenty of headway has been made into the season so far with every team playing a minimum of eight games.

Essex Arrows lead the league table with an 80 per cent win rate. Their eight-game winning streak is the longest in the NBL so far.

Arrows’ winning run was ended by the NBL’s northernmost team Sheffield Bruins last weekend.

The Bruins endured a tough start to the season with five consecutive defeats. They have since turned their form around with three wins in their last four against the 2023 NBL regular season’s top two teams to drag them off the foot of the table into fifth place.

Reigning British baseball champions London Mets had a strong start to the season but have fallen of late with losses to the division's two lowest-placed clubs which has them in second place in the table.

Bournemouth Bears are bottom of the table but their debut NBL season has not been without its highlights. They won their first-ever match in the division against BC Vetra and enjoyed a shock victory against the Mets in their last outing.

Last season’s NBL runners-up London Capitals and the returning BC Vetra make up the remainder of the playoff places with identical 0.5 win ratios.

The Capitals have played four fewer matches than Vetra and have seen the least NBL action thus far.

London Mets shortstop Marc Theberge has been a top performer in the batter's box so far. He leads the division in batting average, RBIs, runs scored, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and walks.

Theberge has hit three home runs this season which puts him joint top in the leaderboards with teammate Geremias Dominguez and the Arrows’ Angel Perez.

Arrows pitcher Giovanni Pappalardo leads the league in pitching victories with four in total. He has struck out 15 batters in 23 innings of work.

Pappalardo’s ERA of 1.83 is beaten only by the Capitals Masa Hashiguchi for players to pitch over 22 innings.

Hashiguchi’s 29 punchouts in 25 innings is the most of any pitcher in the league.
