World Baseball Classic Diary - Thurs 9th March - GB v Kansas City Royals
Thursday 9th March - GB v Kansas City Royals
The second and last GB Baseball warm up game was in Surprise against the Kansas City Royals.
GB, in their road greys, got some good work in against the Royals pitchers led by Cy Young Award winner, Zack Greinke.
Harry Ford, in the DH role, went 2 for 4 as GB and Nick Ward continued to make good contact.
British fans were delighted to get a glimpse of Zack Greinke who demonstrated his pedigree over three innings.
Liverpool’s Ian Blease described the experience as “Zack Greinke is pitching against GB. I don’t know what normal is anymore.”
The facilities were impressive as you would expect but like the previous day, the volunteers at the field were simply amazing.
No matter where you were in the stadium, you were greeted with a smile and if you wanted to know something they were the people you went to.
Many of them were simply baseball fans who were retired and wanted to give back to the local community and the club.
There were couples, there were Dads and their daughters, brothers and sisters and each of everyone of them was interested in GB and the game here.
Its clear that even in America volunteers are the heart of the game and key to its success.
