Getting ready for Phoenix

The British baseball community was gearing up for GB’s first ever appearance in the World Baseball Classic and the chance to watch the heroes of Regensburg.

The roster for the tournament had been put together though a lot of hard work by Drew Spencer and the coaching team and was greeted with delight by British fans.

“Going into the WBC, it felt like we were playing with house money. We had nothing to lose, so we just wanted to play our game,” said Head Coach Drew Spencer.

“We wanted to be a team that competed from the first pitch to the last out of every single game and we were hoping that the other teams in our group would under-estimate us.

“It was the exact same approach we took to the qualifier and to every other tournament.”

Great Britain were placed in Group C with USA, Canada, Colombia and Mexico with all games taking place at Chase Field, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
