U23s fall just short in 6-4 loss to Colombia

GB U23s fought hard to overcome a strong Colombian team but went down 6-4 in their second game of the WBSC World Cup in China this morning.

GB moved into a 3-1 lead by the middle of the fourth innings but Colombia hit back with five runs to take a three run lead.

A sac fly by Matthew Ward scored Tucker Stockman to give GB the lead in the second inning. Stockman then drove in Wallace Clark on a single to centre field before Ward’s sac fly scored Jake Lambdin to give GB the 3-1 lead.

Colombia had been kept in check until the bottom of the fourth inning but then were able to score five runs through timely hits and discipline at the plate.

GB pulled a run back when a single by Clark scored Ben Leid but couldn’t close the gap in the seventh.

"Another day where we probably didn't get what we deserved but that's baseball,” said Head Coach Jonathon Cramman. “I'm so proud of the fight these boys are showing and I know that that first win is right around the corner for us."

Tomorrow GB take on Puerto Rico. First pitch is at 7.30am and the game can be streamed here https://gametime.sport and followed on the WBSC site
