Ward appointed as GB Baseball U12 Head Coach

The British Baseball Federation has appointed Chris Ward as the permanent Head Coach of GB Baseball’s U12 team after a period of being in an interim position.

“I am delighted to be able to take up this important role within the GB programme and I want to thank all the coaches, players and parents who have supported me and the team over the last few years,” said Chris. “This is an exciting time for British baseball and the U12s are a vital part of our commitment to develop the standards of British players on the international stage.”

GB Baseball U12s will be travelling to Slovakia to compete in the 2024 WBSC European Championship Qualifiers at the beginning of July.

"Chris unfortunately missed out on two appointments within GB after being narrowly beaten by two fantastic candidates. but has remained professional and committed to GB,” said Gavin Marshall, the BBF National Teams Programme Official.

“This was clearly demonstrated last year when asked to step up to Interim Manager of the GB U12's after a very late departure of the Head Coach.

“Chris continues to develop as a domestic coach and I and all the other Coaches in GB are delighted with this appointment and we wish Chris and his fantastic staff the best of luck this year.”

GB Pitching Coach Connor Brooks also believes Chris is the right person to the lead the GB U12s.

"He is committed and very well organized. He understands the level of play and what is required from a U12 coach for player development and managing parental involvement.

“Traveling with him this summer as well as communicating after the season and seeing his coordination of practices and planning for the future, I know that the U12s are in good hands.”
