WBC Recap - GB v USA
The crowd had barely settled into their seats when the noise from the crowd began to tell the story of what had happened.
The vast majority of the stadium was hushed but the British contingent were on their feet, waving flags, scarves, whatever was at hand, their eyes following the trajectory of the ball from Trayce Thompson’s bat to the left field fence.
As it sailed over Kyle Tucker’s head the Brits erupted.
It was a shot heard around the world.
It wasn’t the only highlight. There was also The Animal striking out Trout, the diving catch in the left field by Jaden Rudd and D’Shawn Knowles’ triple and cup of tea celebration.

GB’s third base coach and a key part of the team, TS Reed, looks back at the WBC.
“The classic was an opportunity for our players and staff to represent the past, present, and future of Great Britain baseball, together on the largest stage.
“Representing the past, honoring those who’ve worn the GB jersey proudly and laid down foundational bricks to push forward a winning culture. For every single person outside the lines who contributed in laying and growing that very same foundation of GB Baseball for it to be what it is today.
“Our players representing the present, showcasing the product of all the hard work, perseverance, and sacrifice they’ve dedicated to the game for almost their entire lives. Putting that all on display to represent an entire country with immense pride, and earn a right to return to the Classic and compete in 2026.
“And for the future, to leave an impactful, positive legacy behind through this opportunity, to inspire the generations that come after. To grow the game, that’s something all of our players and staff strive for each and every day. The Classic provides the largest platform for us to continue pursuing that inspiration for not just the future of GB baseball, but for youth athletes who are GB fans world wide.
“The Classic meant everything to us.”
