Summer Cup Day Two
The 2024 edition of the BBF Summer Cup is over and three winners have been crowned after a fantastic weekend of baseball action.
Gold
Essex Baseball Club won the Gold Cup after a comeback victory against BC Vetra.
Vetra raced into a 4-1 lead after the third inning thanks to an RBI triple and a two-RBI single from Giedrius Janulevicius and an RBI single from Tadas Sarakojis.
Essex’s Kendry Marte Batista turned the game on its head at the top of the fifth inning with a rare inside-the-park home run which also brought home Aneudy Perez and Jorge Wilhelm.
Centre fielder Angel Perez sealed the win with his second run of the game.
“I’m very proud of Eduardo & our NBL squad. They recovered from watching Angel Chira sustain an awful ankle injury in the final group game to then come back from 1-4 down to win the final. This is our first domestic trophy for 10 years & we don’t plan on stopping there,” said Essex’s Brad Neal.

Silver
Birmingham Metalheads lifted the Silver Cup trophy after an incredible 9-8 win against the London Mets.
The Metalheads took a 3-0 lead into the third inning where madness ensued. Three consecutive four-run half innings saw the Mets steal into an 8-7 lead.
It was the team from the Midlands that had the final say. Reynier Delis scored on a fielders choice to tie the game before Maher Silva's single to left centre drove home Armando Da Silva for a 9-8 victory.
