U18s fight hard but go down 9-1 to strong Netherlands team

GB U18s fought hard throughout their third game of the European Championship but eventually went down 9-1 to the Netherlands.

The team threatened to score early but left six runners on base in the first three innings before the Netherlands crossed home plate five times in the bottom of the third to take a lead they never surrendered.

GB pulled one back in the top of the fifth with Colin Lebel driving in Travis Harfield on a sacrifice fly to left field but the Dutch pitching by Meinsma and De Graaf kept the GB offense in check until the end of the game.

Lebel, Harfield and shortstop William Kraemer all got hits, including Harfield’s double in the top of the fifth.

The GB team continued to press hard on the bases, stealing three but the Netherlands defense limited any comeback.
