Winning start for GB U12s in Europe

Great Britain U12s defeated Poland in their first match of the U12 Baseball European Championship Qualifier in Trnava, Slovakia.

They face competition in the  B-Pool against Belgium, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia for a chance of promotion into the A-Pool of the U-12 Baseball European Championship

Second baseman Stevie Guillet drove home first baseman Sebastian Taylor with a double down the left field line to give GB the lead at the top of the third ining.

Poland instantaneously eqialased after right fielder Jan Nieśmiałek, who travelled from first to third via two wild pitches, scored following a fielding error.

GB re-took the lead at the top of the final inning when third baseman James Theodorakis drove home left fielder Charlie Wilkins with the help of a fielding error.

Shortstop Raj Somaia drove home centre fielder Wyatt Musil with his second hit of the match to further increase his teams lead.

Somaia, who struck out eight Polish batters over his three innings, returned to the mound at the bottom of the sixth inning to shut out Poland, with the help of Musil, and lead Great Britain a 3-1 victory in their tournament opener.

Great Britain return to the home of Baseballový klub STU Angels Trnava on Thursday to face hosts Slovakia who beat Romania 17-0 in their opening match.
