Meet Great Britain’s World Baseball Classic Coaching & Support Staff

Great Britain Baseball's 2026 World Baseball Classic Staff

As Great Britain prepares for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, Manager Bradley Marcelino and Performance Director Gary Anderson have assembled a world-class coaching and performance staff, all to support the players to be the best they can be technically, tactically, physically and mentally at the World Baseball Classic. Let’s look at the assembled talent:

Bradley Marcelino – Manager (Arizona Diamondbacks)

The Skipper enters his second competition leading the Great Britain National Team, bringing his nearly three-decades of experience with the programme to the world’s biggest stage. The second-generation British Baseball Hall of Famer is not just a famous face in Britain; he has spent his coaching career with the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks in addition to instructing some of baseball’s most elite hitters. Marcelino is one of two members of staff to be involved in every single World Baseball Classic tournament, both qualifier and the 2023 edition, in GBR history.

Tanner Swanson – Bench Coach (New York Yankees)

Swanson will be part of the GBR staff for the first time at the classic but is no stranger to high-performance sport. Currently the Major League Field Coordinator & Catching Director for the New York Yankees, Swanson graduated from Central Washington University and completed his masters at Seattle University, before going on to found D1 Catching, a popular social media account dedicated to catching and catching instruction.  Before the Yankees, Swanson spent three seasons with the Minnesota Twins as their Catching Coordinator.

Liam Carroll – Field Coordinator (Boston Red Sox)

The former manger for Great Britain from 2014-2020 – and Jazz Chisholm’s manager at the 2016 World Baseball Classic Qualifier – Carroll’s return to the coaching staff in Rotterdam in 2025 brought more than a decade’s worth of institutional knowledge back to the programme. A former GBR player who started with the programme 30 years ago in 1996, Carroll was  the first British developed coach in Minor League Baseball when he joined the Red Sox organisation in 2023 and is currently in his second season as the manager of Greenville, the Red Sox A+ affiliate.

Barry Enright – Pitching Coach (Athletics)

On of GBR’s coaches with Major League playing experience, Enright played in the big leagues between 2010-2013 for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Angels. A member of the 2019 European Championship roster, Enright’s coaching career also started in 2019, first with Arizona (2019-23) before joining Los Angeles (AL) (2024-2025). He is currently the Pitching Coordinator for the Athletics organisation. Away from the diamond, Enright is a scratch golfer, stemming from his time playing for Pepperdine University, and plays professionally – he won his first-ever professional tournament, the 2020 Outlaw Tour TPC Champions Classic.

Zach Graefser – Assistant Pitching Coach (Major League Baseball)

Graefser serves as European Academies Consultant for Major League baseball and as National Teams Pitching Coordinator for the British Baseball Federation. He was a member of Great Britain’s coaching staff at the 2023 World Baseball Classic and is the Europe & Africa Academies Consultant at Major League Baseball, responsible for the EDGE Camps run across Europe as well as the Cadet Camps and Elite Development Camps held at Farnham Park with the MLB London Series.

Dillon Lawson – Hitting Coach (Boston Red Sox)

Lawson joins Great Britain for the first time at the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Currently the Assistant Hitting Coach for the Boston Red Sox after working with the Yankees and the Houston Astros. Known for his data-driven approach and emphasis on player development, Lawson has built a reputation for blending modern analytics with individualized hitting strategies across his nearly 20-year career.

Jeff Salazar – Third Base Coach (Los Angeles Dodgers)

The second coach with MLB playing experience, this time on the offensive side of the ball, Salazar played 168 Major League games for Colorado, Arizona and Pittsburgh during his 11-year professional playing career, finishing with a .270 lifetime average and 184 stolen bases. Since transitioning to coach, Salazar spent time with the Colorado Rockies before joining the Los Angeles Dodgers organisation, where he is current the Baserunning & Outfield Coordinator.  Salazar joined Great Britain for the 2025 European Championships in Rotterdam.

Matt Talarico – First Base Coach (Chicago Cubs)

Talarico makes his Great Britain debut at the World Baseball Classic and brings a wealth of baserunning knowledge to the programme. He is the founder of StealBases.com, a coaching site focused on baserunning and presented at the American Baseball Coaches Association (ACBA) Conference in Chicago in 2012. A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Talarico has extensive collegiate experience, with D-III Heidelberg, Toledo, Dayton and Wright State before joining the New York Yankees in 2019. He is currently the Offensive Coordinator for the Chicago Cubs.

Oscar Marcelino – Game Strategy Coach

A member of the British Baseball Hall of Fame, and Brad Marcelino’s first-ever baseball coach, Marcelino made his international debut for Great Britain at the1988 European Championship B-Pool-winning side, playing third base, and play for Great Britain until 1993. He also served as an assistant coach for the Great Britain squad. Following his spell in the United States – to assist his son Brad with his baseball career – Marcelino returned to the UK as an envoy coach for Major League Baseball International Partners to help grow the sport. He lives in Manila.

Albert Cartwright Jr. – Assistant Coach

Albert Cartwright Jr. has been involved in every stage of Great Britain’s World Baseball Classic Qualifier history as either a player or coach – playing in the 2012 & 2016 editioned before coaching at the 2022 Qualifier and 2023 Classic. A former Double-A player in the Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies organizations, he is an elite development coach in Florida and the Bahamas.

TS Reed – Assistant Coach

TS Reed brings extensive Division-I coaching experience from the University of San Diego and previously served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith to the Great Britain Staff. A graduate of California State University, Northridge, where he also played, Reed also played one professional season with the Gateway Grizzlies. TS has been with the programme since 2021.

Conor Brooks – Bullpen Coach

A collegiate teammate of former manager Drew Spencer at Dartmouth and an alumnus of Cape Cod Baseball League, Brooks currently works with the Lotte Giants of the Korea Baseball Organization and previously served as a Special Assignment Scout with the New York Mets. A former professional player in the Athletics and Boston Red Sox organizations, Brooks has been part of Great Britain’s staff since 2021.

Dallas Reed – Advance Scout

Dallas Reed made his GBR debut at the 2025 European Baseball Championship in Rotterdam, joining his brother on Great Britian’s coaching staff. He previously coached collegiately at Tarleton State University and Pittsburgh State University.

Freddy Mosier – Analytics/Video Coordinator (Philadelphia Phillies)

A longtime member of the Great Britian Baseball programme, Mosier played for the U15s, U18s, U23s, and Seniors. After concluding his playing career at the 2023 European Championship – where, in his final game, he closed out the semifinal against Germany – Mosier joined the coaching staff for the 2025 Europeans in Rotterdam. Following his college career, Mosier joined the Washington Nationals video department and now works for the Philadelphia Phillies in a similar role.  

Lee MacPhail IV – Advance Scout (Pittsburgh Pirates)

Lee MacPhail comes from one of baseball’s most legendary families. His uncle, Andy, was Minnesota Twins and Chicago Cubs general manager and Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies president; his grandfather Lee Jr, was an executive in baseball for 45 years in various roles including  director of player personnel, executive vice president and general manager for the New York Yankees, the president and general manager of the Baltimore Orioles, chief aide to Commissioner of Baseball William Eckert,  and president of the American League; his Great Grandfather, Larry, was club president and general manager, with the Cincinnati Reds, Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Yankees, and was part-owner of the Yankees from 1945-1947 and is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Lee himself has had an epic career in baseball, with stops in Baltimore (Assistant Director of Player Development and Scouting  1986-95, 2011-12), Texas (Assistant to the General Manager, 1996) Cleveland (Scouting Director 1997-98), Minnesota (Scout, 1999-02, 07), Montreal/Washington (Director of Professional Scouting 03-06), Seattle (Director of Professional Scouting, 2013-18) and the New York Mets (2019).  He obtained his MBA from UNC Chapel Hill in 2022 and joined the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2024.

Matt Ward – Bullpen Catcher

Matt Ward made his debut for Great Britain at the U23 World Cup in China and achieved his first cap for the Senior Team in Rotterdam in 2025. He was named to the prestigious 2024 Buster Posey Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award Watch List while at Niagara University, where he majored in Finance and broke many of the University’s records. He works at the Baseball Zone as a full-time baseball coach in Mississauga, Ontario.

Medical Staff

Ryan Ross – Head Athletic Trainer (Cincinnati Reds)

Ross will join Great Britain’s staff for the first time at the World Baseball Classic. He currently works as the Major League Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Reds after stops with the New York Jets of the NFL, St. John’s University, and the Los Angeles Angels. The Seaton Hall graduate has spent 10 seasons with the Reds and lives in New Jersey with his wife Alexis & their sons Beckett & Griffin.

Paul PorterAthletic Trainer (Arizona Diamondbacks)

Paul joins Great Britain for the first time at the World Baseball Classic and has spent the last 11 years with Major League Baseball teams – first with Arizona from 2013-202, then the Padres from 2020-23, and back to the Diamondbacks from 2023. The LSU and Michigan graduate grew up in England, where he attended the Latymer Upper School in London.

Kelsey Branstetter – Athletic Trainer

Branstetter joins Great Britain’s staff for the first time but has familiarity with Liam Caroll from their time together with the Boston Red Sox’s Greenville Drive in 2025. Branstetter has worked in Major League baseball since 2017, following graduation from Middle Tennessee State University and Wichita State. While in college, Branstetter was a member of the women’s football (soccer) programme, and has experience with the Colorado Rockies, Cincinnati Reds and Red Sox.

Brian Jordan – Strength & Conditioning

The owner and operator of Peak 303, Jordan has a long history in Major League Baseball. Starting after a year with the Detroit Tigers in 1999. Jordan spent 15 years with the Colorado Rockies from 2000-14 and was on the Major League Staff from 2008-14. He is a graduate of Springfield College and native of Maine.

Support Staff

Gary Anderson – Performance Director & Head of Delegation

With an Olympic Bronze medal at the Sochi 2014 games in Bobsleigh, and a career spanning more than 50 years in high-performance sport, Gary Anderson joined Great Britian Baseball in 2022 as part of BaseballSoftballUK, and has overseen a stunning run of success: The first-ever qualification for the World Baseball Classic, the first win at a World Baseball Classic, a 2023 European Silver Medal for both the Seniors and U23s, an appearance at the U23 World Cup in 2025, and the first European Championship team – the U23s – in programme history last year. Anderson also runs the Olympic Programme for Great Britain Softball. A native of Watford, Anderson lives in Milton Keynes with his family and made his Olympic debut in Athens in 2004 with the British Judo team.

Alan Dean – Performance Programme Manager & Federation Coordinator

Dean’s first experience with Great Britain Baseball came in 2007 and has been with the programme for a total of 16 years – first from 2007-18, and then again from 2021. As Performance Programme Manager with BaseballSoftballUK, he also works across the Great Britain Softball Olympic Programme, where he serves as the team’s operation Manager. Dean has more than 25 years’ experience in strength and conditioning, and runs Smarter Performance, a multi-disciplinary consultancy and practice providing sports science services to athletes, teams and general public clients.

Glen Robertson – General Manager

One of the unsung heroes of the Great Britain Baseball programme, Robertson has driven countless miles across Europe, primarily as Great Britain’s Equipment Manager and Clubhouse Attendant. He was appointed to the British Baseball Federation board as the National Teams Programme Officer in 2025, overseeing the age-group teams for Great Britain Baseball – U12, U15, and U18, along with the Women’s National Team. Glen joined the GBR programme in 2013 as Operation Manager under then-manager Liam Carroll.

Andrew Hagberg – Equipment Manager (Arizona Diamondbacks)

Hagberg has 12 years of experience working in equipment and has been the Visiting Clubhouse attendant for the Arizona Diamondbacks since 2014. Hagberg has also worked with the Chicago Cub during spring training as well as the prestigious Arizona Fall League from 2017-24. The Arizona native was made a full-time employee for the Diamondbacks in 2024 and works year-round at Chase Field and Salt River Fields in Arizona.

Paul Stodart – Equipment Manager/Team Photographer

Paul Stodart works for Canon as his ‘day-job’ and has been with Great Britain Baseball since 2016. While he will be one of the team’s Equipment Mangers for the World Baseball Classic – a role he also fills for the U23 team – Stodart’s major contribution to the programme has been through his photography. Paul’s son Oscar was a longtime member of the GB programme as well. Here is just a small selection of Paul’s work:

Chris Knoblock – Federation Press Officer & WBC Travel Coordinator

Knoblock joined the Great Britain Baseball programme in 2021 as the team’s in-house broadcaster for the European Championships, and his role quickly expanded to include media duties at the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifier. He has been Great Britain’s press office since the 2023 European Championship in Czechia, covering both the Senior and U23 teams. He serves in the same role for Great Britain Softball, and broadcasts major events for the WBSC, including the upcoming 2025 Softball World Cup in Prague. Knoblock joined BaseballSoftballUK in 2019 after a career in ice hockey and baseball in North America, including a stint as Director of Baseball Operations for the New Britian Bees of the Atlantic League. He has been three different mascots in his career.

Kyle Brostowitz – WBC Press Officer (Washington Nationals)

Currently the Senior Director of Communications for the Washington Nationals, Brostowitz has spent the last 13 years with Washington, winning the 2019 World Series with the team. Brostowitz is a Wisconsin native and obtained his undergraduate degree from Marquette, obtaining his master’s degree from Georgetown, where he now also lectures. This will be his second World Baseball Classic after filling the WBC Press Officer role for Australia at the 2023 Classic.

Rayanna Janke – MLB Team Coordinator (Major League Baseball)

Janke had a distinguished softball career before making the jump to professional baseball. A standout athlete during her collegiate softball career at the University of West Georgia, Janke was a record setter, finishing in the top 6 all time in career home runs and second all-time in slugging percentage. She was recognised off the field as an NCAA Softball Academic All-American. In 2020, she was selected to compete on the Graduate All-American USA Atlantic Team. Janke joined Major League Baseball after graduation, contributing to two of baseball’s most prestigious global events: the 2025 All-Star Game in Atlanta and the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
