After two losses to start the tournament — 1-15 to Kranjski Lisjaki and 12-15 to Sundbybergs — the London Mets went into Thursday’s final Group A game against Austrian side Diving Ducks needing a five-run win to reach a tie-break or six run to progress to the semi-finals of the 2026 WBSC European Cup in Wiener Neustadt, Austria.
Not only did the Mets get the required run difference, they did it in style, shutting out the Diving Ducks behind five scoreless innings from Matteo Sollecito and four from Joe Cosgrove both backed up by a stellar defensive performance.
The Mets plated four runs in the second inning to take an early lead and headed into the sixth inning with a six-run advantage. The Diving Ducks’ bullpen managed to quieten the Mets’ bats, but the damage had already been done, as Cosgrove allowed just one hit over his four innings to see the game out and send the Mets into Friday’s semi-final.

The Mets will face Swedish side Rättviks Butchers today, 5 June, at 5.30pm BST for a place in the final.
