BBF Playoffs – Week 1 recap

Week one of the BBF Playoffs got off to a damp start, with only one AAA game reaching the required 3.5 innings for completion. The London Metros defeated the Liverpool Trojans 5–0, with Metros pitcher Mills-Knutsen throwing four hitless innings before the game was called due to rain.

The Richmond Roebucks vs. Leicester Blue Sox matchup was suspended after just one inning and will now take place next Saturday, 6th September in Birmingham where the winner will face Bristol Badgers with both teams placing in the Semi Finals the following weekend at Farnham Park. The Metros and Essex Saxons will now meet at Hemel Hempstead in the fourth qualifier where a place in the semi finals awaits the winner.

There was better weather in Croydon, where the AA playoffs took place. The Cardiff Merlins mounted a huge comeback from a 10–0 deficit after four innings, scoring nine runs in the fifth on their way to a 14–13 victory. East London Latin Boys booked their place in the semi finals with a 12-8 win over Kent Buccaneers the day after they overcame Taunton Muskets 4-2 and Manchester Bees 16-6 in the qualifying rounds. The Guildford Mavericks dominated, allowing only one hit and one run over three innings before the mercy rule came into effect, sealing a 25–1 win over the Sheffield Bladerunners. The Milton Keynes Bucks also posted a high-scoring result, defeating the London Meteors 20–4.

Next Sunday, the NBL Playoffs kick off, with the Sheffield Bruins and Herts Toucans meeting in a qualifier. The winner will face the Essex Arrows for a chance to take on the London Mets in the finals. The revised AAA schedule means the semi finals will now take place on September 14th with the finals the following week. Meanwhile, the AA semi-finals will take place in Hemel Hempstead, where the Milton Keynes Bucks face the East London Latin Boys, and the Guildford Mavericks meet the Cardiff Merlins. Single-A qualifiers will also get underway, with 16 teams in action.
