GB’s Harry Ford has been called up to the bigs

By BBF

Great Britain’s Harry Ford has been called up to play in the Majors by the Seattle Mariners.

Ford, both of whose parents were born in the UK, is one of baseball’s top prospects and joins a Mariner’s catching staff led by Cal Raleigh, currently the MLB home run leader.

Harry’s call up comes as part of the September roster expansion as clubs are allowed to add three players to the major league roster.

Ford was selected to represent GB in 2022, when the team won all three of its games in qualification for the World Baseball Classic. He then played in the main tournament the following year, hitting two home runs and batting .308 in four games.

Ford played catcher and DH and batted .429, with 12 RBIs and 5 stolen bases (both leading the championship) in 21 at-bats for Great Britain in the 2023 European Baseball Championship in September 2023 in the Czech Republic.

The GB team has qualified to take part in the 2026 edition of the World Baseball Classic and will play games in Houston against the USA, Mexico, Italy and Brazil.

Best of luck to Harry as he starts the next chapter of his baseball career.
