By Laura Wehner

GB Baseballs first-ever WBSC sanctioned event is just around the corner and the newly released schedule is promising an action-packed weekend.

Alongside GB Women’s adult and development teams, the invitational tournament will see the Czech Women’s adult national team and two Baseball For All teams, supported by Justine Siegal and Liz Benn, compete over the course of two days.

The landmark event will include a Training Day on the 5th of June as well as tournament games, international friendlies and an open clinic at the Farnham Park National Baseball and Softball Complex, Slough, over the course of the weekend (Saturday, 6th and Sunday, 7th June). Both GB Women’s teams will be kicking off the event with some friendly competition at 9:00 on Saturday, with the adults taking on BFA Sparks on Field 1 while the development team will be playing BFA Genesis on Field 2.

At 12:00 GB Women’s national team will then host Czechia on Field 1 in the first tournament game of the weekend.

At 15:00, the same field will then see the GB development team go up against the Czech women in the event’s second tournament game.

As an officially sanctioned competition, all results achieved by the three participating national teams (GB WNT, GB Development and Czechia WNT) will contribute directly to the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Rankings.

The GB WNT are the current European champions and are ranked 15 in the world whileCzechia are ranked 18.

The second day of the event starts off with a friendly between GB Women’s development squad and BFA Sparks on Field 1.

Meanwhile, Field 2 will be hosting a free open-to-all Development Clinic for baseball players from across the country between 9:00 and 12:00.

At 12:00, the GB WNT and Czechia will compete for the last available points of the tournament on Field 1 – with the British women acting as the away team.

At the same time, the GB development squad and BFA Genesis will get a chance at a re-match on Field 2.

BFA Genesis will then remain on the same field where they will take on the Czech women at 15:00. The GB WNT will be closing out the weekend’s baseball action with a double-header against the BFA teams on Field 1, going up against Sparks and Genesis at 15:00 and 18:00 respectively.

At the end of August, the GB WNT will travel to Tainan to take part in the World Cup Qualifier against host nation Chinese Taipei, Cuba, Japan and Venezuela.
