Thrilling Finish as GB U15 Survive Swedish Fightback

Great Britain U15 battled to a thrilling 11-10 victory over Sweden in Game 2 of the tour, showing resilience to hold on for the win. After establishing an early lead, GB had to withstand a late Swedish fightback before securing a one-run victory.

GB made a strong start, scoring three runs in the first inning before adding further runs in the third and fourth to take control of the contest. A crucial five-run sixth inning proved decisive, giving the team breathing space heading into the closing stages.

At the plate, GB produced a 16-hit performance. Lloyd Kirby led the way with a 4-for-4 display, scoring three runs and driving in three more. Wyatt Musil and Matt Johnson both contributed two hits and two runs, while Hugo Esperon Beade, Elliott Altberger, James Theodorakis, Charlie Griffiths and Andreas Stammers all delivered hits throughout the line-up.

On the bases, GB continued to apply pressure with aggressive running from Wyatt Musil, Lloyd Kirby and Matt Johnson.

On the mound, Taylor Wormington delivered an excellent start, pitching four innings and allowing just two runs while keeping the Swedish hitters off balance throughout. Curtis Ward and Wyatt Musil combined to close out the game, with Musil recording the final five outs to secure the victory despite Sweden’s late rally.

Defensively, GB faced a number of challenges as Sweden applied pressure throughout the game, but the team continued to compete and made the plays when they mattered most.

“I’m proud of the way the boys continue to show character whenever it’s asked of them.” said Coach Ian Griebenow “ They continue to grow as a team, and grinding out a result like this is a really positive sign for our developing programme. Credit to the Swedish team for the game they played today, they pushed us all the way. I’m proud of the GB boys and the overall team contribution that helped us get the win.”

The victory moves Great Britain to a well-earned 2-0 record on the tour following back-to-back wins over Sweden.
